My Grandad, Howard Albert Leighton Hobbs, lived in a flat on the seafront side of Marine Court and Mrs Dupree lived in the neighbouring flat. Back in the late 60's and early 70's I have really fond memories of visiting him from our home in Kent. The main art deco entrance hall was black and white tiles that were highly polished. The buidling always reminded me of a grand ship;my Grandad was a Royal Navy sailor so that's why he retired there.
The beach and groynes were great fun; egg or shiphams paste sandwiches (always with a healthy sprinkling of sand too!) I can still hear the sound of the sea sucking at the pebbles!
I remember there was an area of quicksand . . . is this just fanciful or is there some truth to it? I'd love to know . . .

What a lovely surprise to read your post - brought back such fond memories for me too. They were such idyllic times, weren't they? Young, sweet, innocent and so caught up in the moment - not a care in the world. I too remember being told of the quick sand - not sure if true or just a ruse to stop us straying too far. I loved the quaintness of Marine Court - it was like something from the 'movies'.
We'll have to visit together - nothing like a trip down memory lane, especially accompanied by a lovely sister!
