My mother, Lily, was the younger daughter of Walter Dunk who at one time ran the New Inn in All Saints Street. We lived in West London and then Essex during the war and it was difficult to visit Hastings, as it was to all seaside towns.
In or about 1948/9 I visited Hastings with my parents and my father dived from the top board of the St. Leonards pool. My mother remonstrated with him and he said "Well I climbed all the way to the top and did not have the nerve to climb back down!"
