Carlisle Saloon. Being a member of the Clive Vale Angling Club in the 50s they always had their Christmas Bash and prize giving there. In later years it was a place where Mum Dad and us almost grown up kids would meet on a Saturday night for a pint or two and a chat listening to the band.

My cousin Alf Beale and his band used to play there. He played the double bass. They had a harmonica drums and piano. I used to sing with the band sometimes in the late 60's. The place used to get packed and everyone had a great time. Do any of you remember those times in the Carlisle?

I got that a bit wrong in my previous comment. It was an accordion that they played, not a harmonica.

Just another thought, above the door of the Carlisle it advertises Star Beers which was an Eastbourne brewery. They had numerous pubs in and around Hastings and East Sussex and were taken over in 1966 by Courage who never quite produced that really nutty taste in the brown ale.
