I don't obviously don't remember, as I was only a baby at the time, but I sometimes slept here during the war.

I slept in the caves when I came back from evacuation with Cavendish Place Infants school.I do remember it being quite strict with bed times for our different ages and being given a sweet or two according to your age.

It would have been about 1971-72 but I remember being taken there by my dad on New Years Day and having a tour by candlelight. It is so vivid. My brother was a toddler and he was on my dad's shoulders before we went in. We were the only people on the tour and halfway round the guide blee his candle out so we could stand there, and I had never experienced total darkness before. It is imprinted on my memory like it was yesterday.
