West Hill postmarked 1917.
Note the two men with the long telescope looking out to sea next to the lift entrance. On the top of the entrance it has a sign that shows the fare to be one penny. The property in the top centre of the card, that is now Castle Hill View, just in front of the Angel Inn, was a tea shop that has a sign as 'The Tea Pot'.
Unfortunately that level of detail is not visable on this site -
In 1901 the substantial West Hill House was occupied by a retired Congregational Minister and two servants.
In 1911 Plynlimmon House was occupied by a retired Beer & Coal merchant and his five adult children, none of whom had any occupation, except the youngest son who was a student.
Young and idle 'scroungers and skivers' who probably did not get up of a morning and kept their curtains closed whilst the rest of the surrounding population of shop workers, painters decorators, seamstresses, and various house servants had taken a wash in cold water in the scullery and then off to their days labours
