If you'd like to sell them, let me know. The Hotel was run by my Great Grand Parents, Francis and Ellen Gildersleeve and later by their son William (my Father's Uncle Willy). I'm always interested in collecting family memorabilia.

I believe my father Julian Gildersleeve grew up in this hotel, and was married here. I have a wedding photo of my parents which was taken on the steps of the hotel. I don't know much about his family and their history but would very much like to find out more.

I am Lorna Margaret Colman nee Gildersleeve. My father was Douglas Reginald Stanton Gildersleeve who helped his brother William in the hotel. My father's sister Beatrice married Peter Peckham but I have lost touch with all members of the family. I remember the hotel well and have a photo of a huge family gathering for my grandfathers wedding anniversary taken when I was about three (86 years ago!)He threw half crown coins across the floor for all his grandchildren to scramble for.I have lots of memories and would love to be in touch with you.My daughter Andrea is helping me with this and is using her email address.

I am Keith Dawson, the son of Gwynneth Gildersleeve, the daughter of William Gildersleeve, who ran the hotel with his father until he took it over following Francis's retirement. My uncle Gregory kept many documents and papers from the hotel and following his death in 2003, we donated most of them to the Hastings Museum, where they are probably stored away nnevere to be seen again!
I am in touch with Mike Peckham, but my family lost touch with most of William's siblings except Beatrice and her family and I believe Francis the younger's son, Wilfred.

    Hi Guys
I for some reason lost this conversation 5 years ago, but have found out from my bother, Christopher Gildersleeve, that he has been in touch with one of you, not sure which.
I am very much interested in the history of our family but have not had much contact with anyone as our father Julian Gildersleeve passed away at a young age in 1970.
Would love to hear from anyone.

    Hello Maureen

I've just seen this. I would definitely be interested. I'm not sure how to private message you on here, though.

I'll see if I can do it through admin.

    Many thanks

I wonder if you can help.

I'm researching into local suffragettes and gather that, in about 1912, the local Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) held 'at homes' every Monday at the Metropole Hall, which I think was a hall in the Metropole Hotel.

I would be very grateful for any information that you might be able to give me about this.

    Thank you,
    Ann

Does anyone know please if Gildersleeves is now the Lansdowne Hotel? There was a hotel at the other end of Robertson Terrace which looks like it was partly destroyed in the war. Maybe that was Gildersleeves? Thanks. Laurence
