I remember actually swimming here must have been about 35 years ago. I must have only been 6 or 7 then it turned into a ice skating rink. Been shut for about 20 years now.. Thats Hastings council for you... Still empty. Although I visited last month and there seemed to be some people working on it....

This is actually a picture of the "Old Baths there was another more modern one next door...both underground. I learned to swim in the one in the picture whilst at School in 1959 and later joined the Seagulls swimming club at the baths.
-
I also learnt to swim here with the Seagulls Swimming Club, then it moved to Summerfields when this pool closed.
-
What memories... I remember swimming here with the school [early 50's] and also with HESSA [anyone remember HESSA?] and with the Seagulls. Plenty of fun during the holidays and got all my certificates so could put the stripes on my costume!

Yes, Valerie, I was a HESSA member in the late 60s. I believe it stood for Hastings and East Sussex Swimming Association (?) I was a rubbish swimmer and only ever got my width stripe, which was yellow, if I remember correctly. Happy days!
-
I also learnt to swim in the baths in the photo about 1950 and proudly wore my Seagull Swimming club stripes on my trunks with pride. I loved my child hood in Hastings.
-
Fond memories best of all the blackcurrant drink from the machine at foot of the stairs going down to the pool circa 1976
-
HESSA was the Hastings Elementary Scools Swimming Association. I remember it being formed when I was at AllSaints Primary School. I think it was in the late 40s. What lovely memories of Friday nights!
-
Yes spent many hours down there my father worked there treating and controlling water temp nice time

I remember going swimming with the school here....makes me feel old when I see this picture! But it was back in the early 1970's. I always got sort of excited about going but at the same time I hated those changing rooms and going back to school feeling all damp. I swam my first ever width there one morning and got a certificate for it. I was so happy going home for lunch and telling my mum.

How lovely seeing this we used to use this pool all the time when I was at boarding school. Hollington Park School for girls.
-
I belonged to HESSA. My friends and I would go to the baths as often as we could. It cost nine pence to get in. (Old 9 pence!!!)
