This is not Beauport Golf Club as the golf course in Beauport Park was not built until the late 1960s early 1970s.
I suspect this was the Golf Club between Hastings and Fairlight. -
I believe my great grandparents were stewards here in the 1920s. My mother told me that it had been a monastery or convent of a religious group and that she loved playing in all the little passages in the house. I believe that my great grandfather was evicted because he wouldn't vote as he was told by the landowner.
My great grandfather was from the Bumstead family who were involved in the fishing industry. At one time the family ones a lugger called the MIZPAH.
As a small child in the 1950s we used to go mushrooming on the old golf course.
I have an undated sepia photograph of the exterior and also one of the interior showing an old Inglenook fireplace and hanging oil lamps. -
Thank you to Trevor who suggested the site of the photo as between Hastings and Fairlight, as that is exactly where it was!!.I don't suppose it is still in existence??

According to the 1921 Census my great great grandmother, age 73, was a 'bunker maker' and her son a general labourer at the Hastings Golf Club. They lived in Old Town.
