Crowded White Rock

Hastings, East Sussex
Photo from the Geoff Wolfe collection - Copyright 1066online

The photo was taken on a sunny summer day as indicated by the shadows showing in the foreground. The style of dress would tend to suggest that it was taken 1900-1910. The women's dresses do not appear to have very high necklines. Almost without exception everyone is wearing a type of hat; and the lad on the left in the foreground with hand on his hip, is wearing a jaunty boater.

Some of the men are wearing full length coats despite the evident sunny and warm temperature. One man in a bath chair has a rug over him to keep out the cold!

Most of the people are facing towards the bandstand although there does not appear to have any band in place. Perhaps it was a speaker that they were listening to.

This picture has so much life in it.
