it is so very pleasing to see this old landmark. sadly it is no more. However, there is a marker there still but my friends and I visited this place often during the summer holidays. We lived on Rye Road and crossed the fields behind our houses to play around this place, cowboys and Indians, war or just hide and seek. that was in the early sixties, I wonder why it was taken away. any thoughts?

I get the feeling it was Vandalism and old age that saw the end of it. We used to spend many afternoons playing on and round it mid fifties. The story was you could see the coast of France on a clear day, but I never did!

On first viewing this it looked like something Albert Pierrepoint would do his nasty deed on........although didn’t it have a sundial on top?

It still has the dial on a large plinth, great place to play, happy days
