Nice shot of Old Town with High Wickham at the top. the last house at the end was called Windy Ridge and there in the 1960s lived Admiral Dannereuther (!) who fought in the WW1 Battle of Jutland

I understand that High Wickham was a popular street for artists to live in . The light must be good and an unrestricted view across the town.

The East Hill was not a good place for many Priory Road boys to be for games afternoons in winter!

Colin do you remember the long trudge down the side of West Hill then all the way up the side of East Hill to play football in the freezing wet winter afternoons. The old leather footballs weighed a ton when wet and everyone tried to avoid heading them for fear of concussion, on two occasions I did manage to boot the ball over the cliff thus ending the torture for the day.

I remember playing football for the Grove against Priory Road on the East Hill in the 60s, you couldn't see from one end of the pitch to the other because of fog and drizzle.

As a Priory Road boy also in the 60s, I remember not attending sport day and spending the afternoon in the Old Town or on the beach with other non attenders and normally paid the price the next day with 6 of the best.

I well remember the trudge from school to the hill for sports.I also remember after registration as I was never selected to play football sneaking off with friends and climbing down the sandstone cliffs to the caves and old town when there were still a form of pathway down.
