I would of thought this picture was taken mid 1960's. The Ford Anglia was introduced in 1959 and Mastins on the right was demolished in 1972.

Thanks Robert, the postcard was undated so I made a (rather bad) guess on the year. I have now ammended the caption to a more sensible 1965.

How lovely ,i used to go to Mastins (the shop on the right) with my Mum .You wouldn't be sitting on the fountain like those two people today. Looks almost idyllic !..

Even in the 1960s Mastins still had an upright chair in front of each counter so the customer could sit down whilst looking at the potential purchases they might make. What would the prim and proper sales assistants make of the fact that in some supermarkets customers actually process the purchase themselves and can leave the store without so much as having noticed a shop assistant.
Great postcard of the newly built fountain. It might seem strange to many people the absence of vehicles in the picture, but in the street where I lived I think that there were only two or three households who had vehicles. One of those was a SEGAS vehicle for an employee -
It was amazing how a couple of packets of Daz added to the fountain on a Friday night would completely change the whole outlook of the surrounding area. We never knew soap suds could attain the height of a single decker bus, yes childish I know.
