This is a 1947 Sunbeam W with 56 seat bodywork by Weymann of Weybridge. After the closure of the Hastings trolleybus system in 1959, eight similar vehicles (but not this one) were sold to Walsall Corporation, where they gave service for another eight years or so.

I loved riding on these trolley buses often using the No.2 & 11 routes from Hollington. Very smooth and fast acceleration. The replacement buses were never the same although they seemed huge in comparison.

I also used to enjoy the trolley buses, when I started school I used to travel from Alexandra Park to West St. Leonards School. I would walk down from Keppel Road to the Park and then wait for the bus all on my own and all at the grand old age of 5 !! The summer was the best when they put the open topped trolley buses into service.

My father Harold Dearing was the signwriter and artist who painted the Cutter pictorial seen top left of the photograph. He produced many inn signs around Sussex and Kent.
