ACIDFEST HASTINGS brings an exciting lineup to the popular The Piper in Saint Leonards-on-sea. Thee Lucifer Sams are true visionaries, refusing to put their music on platforms such as Spotify or having social media. Their mix of semi-improvised psychedelic noise draws equally from the abstraction of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, Lemmy's Hawkwind and Sonic Youth noise - with no songs just a full-on psychedelic, sonic rollercoaster.

The Dead Zoo are a proudly trans led, corn fed noisy post-punk band from London, who always put on an energetic live set, and are always worth watching.

Eels! Eels! Eels! join us for the first time - and first time in Hastings too. Energetic alt-rock with healthy doses of psych and already played on the radio.

Madonovan is the best shoegaze artist you've never heard before, and an unique concept - a tribute to itself, covering songs written, but never released, over 30 years ago. A cathartic ode to lost youth, dreams and rock'n'roll itself.

Acidfest is more than just a "gig", but a true happening. This is what the Liverpool Psychedelic Society always offers at our events: an unique experience, something that the mainstream is unable to offer, truly grassroots and open to all.

This is not about any "scene", we just create our own culture and everyone is welcome to enjoy… so come and join the society!

The Liverpool Psychedelic Society brings to The Piper the one and only Pete Bassman, from the legendary Spacemen 3. Early finish (10pm)

Pete Bassman (aka Pete Bain) is one of the original members of Spacemen 3, which can be considered one of the most influential psych bands of all time. From modest beginnings in Rugby, Spacemen 3 went on to influence generations of psych rockers worldwide with albums such as 'Sound of Confusion', 'The Perfect Prescription' and 'Performance' - all featuring Pete Bassman.

Pete left Spacemen 3 (and was replaced by Will Carruthers) and formed other influential and equally excellent projects, such as The Darkside and Alpha Stone. Pete Bassman is the only original member of Spacemen 3 still based in Rugby and, for our money, he remains the best and most "spaceman" member of Spacemen 3. His live sets are real psychedelic trips and he's STILL light years ahead of anyone else on the scene. Simply unmissable.

Main support on the night will be Thee Lucifer Sams, the visionary psychedelic rock band from Liverpool, who refuses to do social media profiles or stream their music: their semi-improvised jams reminiscent of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd , mixed with Hawkwind drive and Sonic Youth noise can only be experienced live. Audiences as far afield as Germany, Iceland and Sweden have enjoyed their sets - no two Thee Lucifer Sams shows are ever the same, and they were lauded by renowned writer John Robb as "stunning" live.

Black Arches are an experimental group from Hastings, fusing psychedelia, electronics, spoken word and noise rock in wild live improvisations. They regularly collaborate with Medway Scene legend Sexton Ming and are not to be missed!

Liverpool Psychedelic Society nights are more than just gigs, but true psychedelic happenings, with visuals and great vibes all night.

Janaina Tschäpe brings the swell of the English Channel and the immensity of the world's oceans into the heart of Hastings Contemporary.

Filling our largest gallery space, the exhibition features a dramatic new series of paintings and works on paper created by Tschäpe in response to her experience of visiting a wet and stormy Hastings in the winter of 2025. The works will be complemented by a film piece.

Spending her formative years in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Tschäpe, whose first name references a Brazilian sea goddess, has always been captivated by the notion of the sea as a gateway to mystical realms.

Her resulting large-scale, semi-abstract landscapes are made up of extraordinary tapestries of forms and lines, where drawing and gesture move like currents.

Moore / Freud will be the first exhibition to explore the distinctive ways in which Henry Moore and Lucian Freud drew upon familial bonds and intimate relationships as crucial sources of artistic inspiration.

Bringing together a focused selection of 20 works, including maquettes, works on paper, and paintings, the exhibition presents two towering figures of the 20th century side by side through a shared and deeply personal theme.

Contemporaries with interlocking social circles – though not closely associated in life – Freud and Moore shared an enduring fascination with the theme of family in their work, albeit interpreted through markedly different styles and approaches. Whilst Moore tended towards abstraction and Freud was deeply engaged with figurative realism, both artists demonstrated a profound sensitivity to human connection and emotional intimacy, sustained throughout their long artistic careers.

Midway through the route, we gather for a shared meal (food is optional) featuring locally sourced dishes, offering time to connect, reflect, and build new relationships across the philanthropic and nonprofit communities.

The day concludes with an intimate talk by Inua Ellams poet, playwright, performer, and one of the most beloved literary voices working today. His reflections on creativity, identity, and the power of storytelling invite guests to consider how arts and culture can shape place, belonging, and longterm social change.

Inspired by the performances of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford, the UK stars are hitting the road (with Pasquale at the wheel of the tour bus).

Packed with laughs and songs, backed by a 15-piece band, the show will let the audience in on the banter between some of television's best-loved stars - who are also very close friends.

Bradley Walsh says: "People are starved of our type of entertainment - songs, stories, jokes - and banter! It's an homage to the Rat Pack but brought up to the modern day, and its a fantastic night. We are just thrilled. We all share the same dressing room - we're mates. We've known each other for so long now - and the show is about warmth and family - because we are. It's great, really great."

Walsh was joined by his three mates and the Barry Robinson Big Band for a one-off show at the Palladium in London in March, and the idea was born for a full-on Prat Pack tour.

Fans can expect an evening packed with jokes that can only come from the chemistry of such seasoned entertainers. Walsh, Conley and Richie were all Pontins Bluecoats earlier in their careers and Pasquale was a Warner's Greencoat, giving them all a grounding in variety before decades-long careers at the very top of entertainment.

Get ready to lift your voices and celebrate the festive season with The Big Christmas Sing-a-Long. Starring much-loved performers and presenters Aled Jones and Alexander Armstrong, this heartwarming live experience promises an unforgettable evening of music, laughter and Christmas cheer.

One of the UK’s most iconic voices, Aled Jones will perform some beloved highlights including his signature rendition of Walking in the Air, alongside a selection of classic carols that have become synonymous with the festive season. Joining him on stage is English comedian, actor, television presenter and bass-baritone singer Alexander Armstrong, whose rich vocals and natural charm promises to bring humour, warmth, and festive sparkle to every performance.

Audiences will be invited to put on their favourite Christmas jumper and sing along with them both to a joyful mix of traditional Christmas carols, modern festive favourites, and timeless seasonal classics in the most Christmas of settings.

Aled Jones MBE has had an extraordinary career over the past four decades. He is the original crossover star, has sung for the Pope and the Royal Family, has received an MBE, released over 40 albums, with over 10 million album sales and has over 40 Silver, Gold and Platinum Discs. After beginning his career at the age of 12, Aled became one of the world’s most successful boy sopranos, releasing 12 hit albums in 4 years, he was the first classical artist to have 2 albums in the Top 5 of the Official Album Charts. Aled has built an extensive career as a TV and radio presenter and hosts one of the nations most loved Classic FM shows and BBC1 Songs of Praise - all whilst continuing to record and tour. Last year, Aled also released his third book, Aled’s Book of Blessings for 2026 and is working on his next book release.

Alexander Armstrong is best known as one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller, who had series on Channel 4 and BBC1. As well as hosting Classic FM’s flagship weekday mid-morning programme, Alexander continues to be a regular on the BBC series Have I Got News For You, having hosted more than 40 times and helms the hugely popular TV quiz show Pointless on BBC1. More recently, he has found success as a travel presenter, he makes his 5th travel series for Channel 5 in the US in Summer ‘26. He published his bestselling debut children’s novel, Evenfall: The Golden Linnet, in 2024 and the follow-up in the Evenfall series, The Tempest Stone in February 2026.

Alba Nova is the voice of a new century restless, inventive, and alive. Music that entrances and unsettles, inviting you to hear the guitar as if for the very first time. Translating as New Dawn in Catalan, this bold project presents sixteen world-premiere recordings and highlights collaborations with four of Spains leading contemporary guitar composers: Marco Smaili, Maria Camahort, Javier Salvador and Pablo Grau.

Alba Nova weaves fresh innovation with some of the guitars most cherished repertoire, creating a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Paired with Jonathans engaging style, his love for audience interaction, and his ability to share his passion, listeners are sure to be captivated throughout the performance.

Jonathan Ross Parkin, born in Teesside in the northeast of England, has established himself as a sensitive and highly versatile musician of the highest caliber. Jonathan has performed in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, Palau les Arts (Valencia), The Barbican, and LAuditori (Barcelona).

Jonathans expressive, colourful, and virtuosic playing has brought him success in more than fifteen major international competitions, including the Certamen Llobet (2nd Prize, Audience Award 2018, and Llobet Prize 2020), the London International Guitar Competition (2nd Prize 2020), the Concurso Ciudad de Elche (Audience Award 2023), and the Ivor Mariants Prize (3rd Prize 2017), among others.

Currently based in Valencia, in 2025 he recorded his debut album, Alba Nova, with JSM Records, set for release in 2026 and is a professor at the Escuela Superior de Msica Alto Rendimiento.

CAPTAIN OF THE LOST WAVES

The Captain has been described as an ethereal troubadour, a profound storyteller, music philosopher, poet, bard and eccentric free thinking renegade. His musical offerings are inspired by the great songwriters and philosophers of yesteryear. All is in reverence of the song here, the art is always greater than the artist. Whilst the live performance and repertoire is designed to instigate and infiltrate the unknown depths of the listener, raising more questions than answers both artistically and philosophically. Fronting his compositions with a haunting, range shifting vocal capable of high tremulous falsettos and deep baritone timbres, all expressed primarily on the bouzouki though flanked by much use on the mandolin, guitar and ukulele. With some of his shows he is joined by the wonderful Wendy Ross (Magna Carta) on violin. She began playing violin at age 4, being classically trained, a rapid, high achiever she soon became a protege of one of the North East's top teachers/violinists, and went on to win festival and music awards. Many years of experience and further training followed, then playing professionally in orchestras, chamber orchestras, theatres, quartets and solo work both at home and abroad. This is visceral music for the mind and body, full of dreamy verses, life affirming choruses and sheer audacity. Where melodic artistic invention meets in a melting pot of alternative folk, progressive, classical world, baroque chamber orchestral pop and ambient soundscapes. Previously signed to Voiceprint under his natural guise Shaun T Hunter and Quiet Rebellion he released three critically acclaimed albums, two of which were Borders Book Store's album of the month. Off the back of this he carried out a residency at the famous 12 Bar Club, London. He was also voted Acoustic Roots performer of the year at the Leeds Independent Music Awards in 2005. He was also voted outstanding songwriter of the year from the Yorkshire Gig Guide Awards 2017. Making music is a communion to the Captain and much of his work has taken place in a music therapy guise. Playing in secure units, prisons, mental health units and hospitals. The connection is always about the most authentic exchanges between an artist and his audience, based on a shared humanity. The Captain was chosen by English Folk Expo as just one of 12 English artists to represent team England in the inaugural Global Music Match 2020, an exercise where 96 artists from 14 countries were featured world wide. The Captain was born to be an entertainer, perhaps even a prophet, watching his show is a life altering experience, there are no words in the English language to describe him.

Gabriel Moreno is Gibraltarian singer-songwriter, currently based in London. An irresistibly engaging performer, he combines a latin exuberance and passion with a rare lyrical calibre (he is also an accomplished poet, with 15 books published to date). Performing on nylon string guitar and accompanied by extremely talented musicians on violin, piano and bass creates a live experience that has been described as Taberna Folk - at once both energetic and intimate, anarchic and absorbing.

He has thrilled audiences across South America, the USA and Europe, including recent sets at UK festivals Wilderness, The Great British Folk Festival and Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, and has been championed by the likes of BBC 6 Music's Cerys Matthews, with his sonorous baritone and poetical lyrics often seeing him compared to such luminary wordsmiths as Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Bill Callahan.

Moreno's unique artistic voice lies in the meeting and fusion of different identities. Born and raised in Gibraltar, a British territory bordering southern Spain and just 8 miles from Africa, he has since lived and performed across the world, absorbing influences from music, literature and art everywhere he went. Now considered one of the most compelling and distinctive artists in London's thriving folk and roots scene, he was previously the longtime curator and host of the legendary Lantern Society folk club, and in 2022 was awarded the title of Cultural Ambassador of Gibraltar.

Moreno won the Introducing Stage at the Great British Folk Festival in 2019, and although the Covid-19 pandemic forced a temporary hiatus for many artists, he could never let his creativity stagnate; 2025 sees the release of his 4th album since the start of the pandemic, Nights In The Belly Of Bohemia, with an accompanying packed touring schedule across Europe, as well as a second book of poetry in that time entitled Heart Mortally Wounded by Six Strings.

The songs tread a path between Folk, Latin and cabaret torch song. It's an oddly effective mix which forms the perfect bed for Gabriel Moreno's distinctive voice -a blend of Leonard Cohen, Peter Sarstedt, and dare I say it, Rex Harrison. -Trevor Raggart, RNR magazine.

Captain Of The Lost Waves plays his unique blend of music.

Trying to describe the Captain of the Lost Waves music is very difficult. At times his music has been described as Ethereal Folk, Punk, and Progressive Rock. He’s also been described as Blending elements of 20th-century music hall, vaudeville, folk, and cabaret into an immersive spectacle.

He’s been compared to Freddie Mercury, Charlie Chaplin and even Irving Berlin.

Whatever you may think, his live shows are a musical treat and he spins a web of musical enchantment and lyrical fantasy. All of this is wrapped in quirky humour and unforgettable melodies. Before you know it, you will be singing along to choruses that you’ve only just heard!

I’ve known him and been making videos for him for some eight years and I couldn’t recommend anyone more highly – especially, for a live show!

The Captain is venturing to Hastings for the first time in seven years and I have organised a show in Glenn’s wonderful garden. It will be a magical Summer show. The Garden and the Captain are well matched and suit each other so well! I’m expecting a touch of magic.

Miguel Rothschild brings a dramatic new seascape installation to Hastings Contemporary, exploring what lies beneath the ocean's surface.

The duality and elemental power of the sea have inspired Miguel Rothschild's work for more than two decades, creating work which conjures the luminous, ever moving and changing surface of the sea, as well as its silent, introspective depths.

A celebrated figure internationally, this will be Rothschild's first solo show in a major UK gallery and will include a dramatic new, site-specific seascape installation in the galleries, shown alongside recent photographic work.

Rothschild's work spans film, expanded photography, drawing and large-scale installations, to create impossible dioramas that beguile and transfix the viewer. His work seeks to encourage dialogue around the need to care for and understand our oceans, and how sustainability requires us to acknowledge what remains hidden beneath the waves.

Coffee Concert: Fenella Humphreys (violin)

Fenella Humphreys, winner of BBC Music Magazine Awards in 2025, 2023 and 2018, has attracted critical admiration and audience acclaim with the grace and intensity of her remarkable performances.

Artist in Residence at Londons Wigmore Hall for the 2025/6 season, Fenella has been enjoying premieres of new works by Sally Beamish, Tom Coult, Stephen McNeff and Anna Berg as well as performances with orchestras including CBSO and London Mozart Players. Fenella performs widely as a soloist.

Her recent album of Sibelius solo works with BBC National Orchestra of Wales has been featured in BBC Radio 3s Building a Library and Gramophone Magazines Guide to the Concerto. BBC Music Magazine wrote of the recording: Fenella Humphreyss playing is a genuine revelation in the way it brings out the musics dark and introspective qualities, with no shortage of technical panache.

Released in 2024, her Chandos recording of Adrian Suttons Violin Concerto with BBC Philharmonic won BBC Music Magazines 2025 Premiere Award, with the Strad Magazine writing Humphreys brings her endlessly unfurling violin lines taut, silvery weightlessness. The concerto was written for her in 2023, and premiered at the Southbank Centre with the RPO.

Fenella plays on a beautiful G.B. Guadagnini violin kindly on loan from Jonathan Sparey. She will be performing a versatile programme for solo violin including pieces by Paganini.

This recital pairs Schubert with Chopin, and Satie with Debussy composers who found remarkable expression in intimate musical forms.

Schuberts Moments Musicaux and Chopins Mazurkas share a quixotic nature and the spirit of experiment. Both explore surprising turns of harmony and rhythm: Schubert through shifting moods and unexpected modulations, and Chopin through subtle rhythmic inflections that transform the Polish dance into something deeply personal and poetic.

In the second half, Satie and Debussy reflect a friendship marked by both admiration and tension. Saties Gnossiennes and Je te veux reveal his spare, unconventional style, while Debussys Clair de lune, The Snow Is Dancing, and Minstrels expand these ideas with greater colour and nuance shaped, too, by the lingering influence of Chopin.

Together, these works trace a path from Romantic intimacy to modern refinement, showing how small forms can hold entire worlds of imagination.

Matthew Quenby is a versatile performer, he has performed in prestigious halls and festivals including: Vienna Musikverein, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Salzburg Festival, Lucerene Festival, Edinburgh Festival and regularly at the BBC Proms. As a soloist Matthew has performed at the Berliner Philharmonie and with many London Chamber Orchestras. Chamber Music has always been a major part of Matthews musical output and recorded for EMI with the Lunel Quartet. Whilst living in France Matthew was Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the Masters de Pontlevoy Academie Internationale de Musique. Currently Matthew performs with Ensemble Reza across the south east concert series and educational programs as well as being a member of the St Martins in the Field Chamber Ensemble.

Pavlos Carvalho has performed as a solo and chamber musician in venues including The Purcell Room, The Royal Albert Hall, The Cadogan Hall and Teatro dal Verme, Milan. Pavlos has recorded for the BBC and recently released the Bach Suites for Willowhayne Records. He annually performs these suites, together with the Beethoven Sonatas at both the Brighton and Chichester Festivals. He has performed concertos with many orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic. As a founding member and Artistic Director of Ensemble Reza, Pavlos has been involved in many outreach and community projects including Music for Life, Pied Piper and Live Music Now. He is a Director of Pro Corda Cello Courses and has given master classes and workshops for the London Cello Society and Cambridge University.

The elegantly scruffy ( now known as shabby chic) band underwent various line up changes over the years but always remained focused on their own style of bluesy rock much like the Rolling Stones and The Faces.

Tyla J Pallas also forged a successful solo career as a songwriter and performer. This allowed him to spend more time on his other passion, art. Indeed, Tyla’s paintings and prints have become much sought after and a couple can usually be found for sale at his live shows.

Founder member of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Trevor Watts has worked with many other innovative musicians spanning his 60 year career. Don Cherry, Steve Lacey, John Stevens, Bobby Bradford, Cyro Baptista and Adame Drame being just some of them.

His Drum Orchestra, a group that featured many fine Ghanaian drummers and singers, collaborated with Teatro Negro Barlovento, a 35 piece group from Venezuela, playing concerts at British Jazz Festivals as well as in South America and for a BBC radio broadcast.

This trio is made up of two duos. Keyboardist Veryan Weston has been playing with saxophonist Trevor Watts since the early 1980s. They have a long standing and critically acclaimed duo playing improvised music. Percussionist Jamie Harris has been partnering Watts since the late 1990s. Their duo is based on strong rhythmic and melodic ideas. In 2021 the duos formed a Triangle.

French journalist Xavier Prevost describes the band:
'The music breathes under other horizons; Hispanic, Latin American, Middle Eastern. With sometimes melancholic accents that often resolve themselves into pulsations, towards a lyricism that is as torn as it is heartbreaking.'

Kevin Armstrong has played guitar for some of the biggest names in music from the mid 1980s to the present day. From David Bowie to Morrissey, Thomas Dolby to Prefab Sprout, from Sinead O'Connor to Iggy Pop, his range of experience as a musician has brought him into contact with some of the most interesting and diverse talents on the planet. His fifty-year career as a music producer and guitar player to the stars shows no sign of slowing down.

Kevin played for David Bowie at Live Aid in 1985. As well as albums and tours with Iggy Pop and the soundtrack for Absolute Beginners and Labyrinth, He was a fifth member of Tin Machine and collaborated with Bowie on the Outside album. He co-wrote songs with Morrissey in the early post-Smiths phase. Kevin has continued to tour and record with a huge variety of famous, as well as up-and-coming artists and produces critically acclaimed solo work.

His book and highly entertaining one man show Absolute Beginner, give an insight into how to survive in the fickle music world, and tell stories and sing songs from half a century as a professional musician, writer, producer and bandleader. He continues to tour and collaborate with a wide range of world-renowned musicians.

Girlschool

Girlschool is a British rock band formed in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene in the 1970s and is frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead. They are the longest-running all-female rock band, still active after almost 40 years.

Originally formed in 1975 from a school band called Painted Lady, Girlschool enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of "punk-tinged metal" and a few singles.

During their career, Girlschool traveled the world, playing in many rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with important hard rock and heavy metal bands. They maintain a worldwide cult following and are an inspiration for many female rock musicians. Original members Kim McAuliffe, Denise Dufort, and long-time member Jackie Chambers are still in the band. Bassist Olivia Airey joined in 2024.

RAVEN are that rare thing in music, true originals - cut these guys with a razor and they will BLEED true heavy metal - a more intense live band does not exist on this planet! Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne in North East England back in 1974 (yes - 46 YEARS ago!!!) the brothers Gallagher cut their teeth playing the pubs & clubs until solidifying their line up in 1980 with drummer Rob Hunter.

The trio went on to release three of the most influential metal albums of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) inspiring every band of that era and beyond. Basically, without Raven you just would not have thrash/speed metal…. after all, the band did give Metallica & Anthrax their first tours!

Following an insane blur of world touring over the last 3 years, the guys released the next RAVEN opus, "Metal City" in September 2020 taking their game to the next level…a scorcher of immense proportions!

In a cynical musical landscape these days, where bands are not "gangs "but faceless corporations, RAVEN are a band that are REAL not FAKE - and proud of it!

Alcatrazz

Alcatrazz is a heavy metal band that was formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by Jimmy Waldo, Gary Shea (both formerly of melodic rock band New England) and Graham Bonnet (formerly of Rainbow and Michael Schenker Group). The initial line-up was completed by the addition of young Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, who had recently left American metal band Steeler, and former Iron Butterfly drummer Jan Uvena, who had just recently departed Alice Cooper's backing band. It was Shea that named the band "Alcatrazz"; the misspelling of the famous prison's name deliberate.

Alcatrazz are currently writing and recording for a 2026 album release.

Airforce

After disbanding in 1997, Airforce took to the stage once again in 2008 with Chop Pitman being the only original member involved. The band underwent a number of line-up changes over the next 8 years until 2016, when the retro-spective album "Judgement Day" was released. This album marked the return of the original Airforce line- up of Chop Pitman, Doug Sampson and Tony Hatton, with new recruit Dilian Arnaudov on vocals.

With line-up complete, Airforce released several EPs, including songs with guest appearances from former Iron Maiden vocalists Paul Di'Anno and Paul Mario Day. Their most memorable live performances include North American tours which won loyalty of new fans, as well as the appearance on Hills of Rock festival in Bulgaria, where they played on the same bill as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

The band continued to tour the UK as well as taking their show to other countries, both in Europe and across the Atlantic, including some festival appearances and a successful tour supporting Steve Harris' British Lion in 2021. When you hear the air-raid siren, you'll know the hour of Airforce has arrived.

Handels oratorio Messiah is possibly the best-known choral work in the world, regularly performed in concert halls and theatres world-wide as well as featuring in a huge number of films and TV series. It is full of wonderful and memorable tunes, with the exciting Hallelujah chorus only one of many powerful choruses, which are balanced with dramatic and beautiful solos. While the English text is drawn from the Old and New Testaments, its themes of suffering, hope and redemption are universal, and Messiah's dramatic theatricality and range of emotional expression make it a riveting concert experience.

Bexhill Choral Society will be accompanied by the Sussex Concert Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Roberts, and the soloists will be Helen May da Silva (soprano), Sarah Denbee (mezzo-soprano), Kristian Thorkildsen (tenor), and Peter Grevatt (baritone).

Bexhill Choral Society is a friendly non-audition choir and warmly welcomes new members. London’s The Hanging Stars return with their sixth album, Just A Day - a dazzling collection of four-part harmonies, shimmering twelve-string guitars and chiming songs, touching on themes of longing, new beginnings and the fragility of the everyday. Recorded at Edwyn Collin’s legendary Clashnarrow Studios in the Scottish Highlands, the album marks a bold new chapter for the band, produced with the invaluable guidance of Teenage Fanclub’s Gerard Love.

A line-up change at the end of 2024 proved to be a galvanising moment for The Hanging Stars. “We needed to rethink things,” says guitarist Patrick Ralla. “A new leaner approach - bass, drums, guitars, four-part harmonies. Certainly worked for The Byrds, Big Star and Teenage Fanclub.” The result is a wonderfully energising record full of catchy hooks and a renewed vision. The songs are designed to take the listener away from it all… even if it's just for a little while.

Central to the record’s new direction was the involvement of Gerard Love - one third of Teenage Fanclub’s celebrated songwriting trio and the artist behind Lightships. Starting from demos exchanged between Glasgow and London, Love helped the band strip things back to their essence, ever so gently guiding them toward their finest work to date. He also joined the band for a week of recording, contributing vocals, arrangement ideas and by all accounts a mean vegan curry.

The venue is next to the gorgeous Hastings Museum which has a section dedicated to the railways of Hastings and free entry, so worth visiting there after the show.

Summerfields Leisure Centre is approximately 3/4 mile from Hastings Rail Station (up hill!) but buses operate from both Hastings and St Leonards stations direct to the venue. Direct buses from Rye, Bexhill and Tunbridge Wells also to outside venue.

The Hastings Rock Choir is led by East Sussex based musician Esther Jones. The choir will be performing locally again soon so it's a chance for you to join in, sing and perform without pressure and under the supportive guidance of Esther. Rock Choir members have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, on top of the BT tower and many more iconic venues across the country.

Whether you only sing in the shower or along to your car radio, or whether you see yourself belting out a showstopper at Wembley Arena (which we did! - for the ITV1 documentary 'The Choir that Rocks'), there's a place for you in the Hastings Rock Choir. With no singing audition or need to read music, anyone can come along to a FREE taster session and see what all the fuss is about!

Heaven 17 are a British synthpop band originating in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England that was formed in 1980, having much 80s success with their electronic sound. Taking their name from a fictional group mentioned in Anthony Burgess's novel A Clockwork Orange (where 'The Heaven Seventeen' are at number 4 in the charts with 'Inside'), Heaven 17 formed when Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware split from their earlier group, The Human League, and devised the production company British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.).

A Place To Bury Strangers have been delighting and astonishing audiences for close to two decades, combining post-punk, noise-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia, and avant-garde music in startling and unexpected ways. As the founder of Death By Audio, creator of signal-scrambling stomp boxes and visionary instrument effects, front man and guitarist Oliver Ackermann exported that excitement and invention to other artists who plug into his gear and blow minds. In concert, A Place To Bury Strangers is nothing short of astounding - a shamanistic experience that bathes listeners in glorious sound, crazed left turns, transcendent vibrations, real-time experiments, brilliant breakthroughs.

The HC group began in 2003, is now 15 albums deep, and has never felt more alive. Forever changing. Always pushing forward. Merging the repetition of Oneida and The Fall with touches of Gang Of Four / Lungfish / Sabbath.

HC band members have been in, or are in, numerous other projects, a wide sounding list of groups. From Haress to PJ Harvey via Joeyfat and more. HC is a big focus, a focal point. Every band is connected.

They recorded their most recent album, Heaven Was Wild, in November of 2024 . The album was released in March of 2026 (Wrong Speed Records in the UK, Learning Curve in the USA). The band had gone quiet. No gigs leading up to the album. No gigs after the album. No live performances for two years.

They were working behind the scenes. The line-up was mutating. They'd known Tom House for years. His bands Charlottefield and Sweet Williams are irrepressible, just like he is. An infectious melody. A twisted lyric. An ear for the dark. Tom was the perfect replacement for former frontman, Paul, who has taken a step back from music and is focussing elsewhere.

Keeping some old songs but also working on an entirely new set the band toiled in Birmingham and Somerset. Long weekends. Regular get togethers. Getting it correct. Two years of rehearsals and writing.

So, now, with a new front person, fresh fire and a whole new set of songs the band is taking it out. There will be a new album in 2027. There will be WAY more live shows. Onwards.

Pram formed in the late 80s with a sound that ranges from exotica, Krautrock and the forgotten film soundtracks. Over the years Pram have expanded their ideas to encompass disorientating shifts in mood, with their new material seeing the band build on their distinctive soundscape with added textures and a raw, powerful live show careering from eerie to bone-shaking

Pram are essentially a product of the post-punk late 80s, inspired by the likes of The Raincoats and The Slits and contemporaries of Stereolab and Broadcast. Pram have always sounded like they make up their own rules, including an inventively open approach to rhythm and timing. And their use of theremin and the manipulation of instruments also adds a certain harmonic wooziness.

The band still use a bewildering array of instruments and are unrepentantly unfazed by the possibilities of performing on anything and everything that seems appropriate. “It’s not possible to develop a facility on every instrument we want to use” explains founder member and multi-instrumentalist Sam Owen, “so we simply don’t worry about it and look instead for the initial thrill of discovering a new sound”. The addition of mountain dulcimer and trombonist/theremin player Harry Dawes’ sometimes playful, occasionally mournful soprano saxophone are a testament to this continued experimentation in the new set.

Explore the shadowy history of folk horror and its connection to ancient customs and rituals on the British Isles. Followed by Q&A.

Why do stories of ghosts, witches and shapes in the night continue to haunt our imaginations? What is it about those ancient landscapes, ruined churches, mist-shrouded moors and lonely country lanes which so frequently feature in folk horror tales? In this talk, Professor Marisa Linton uncovers the strange and compelling history of folk horror in the British Isles - from eerie legends rooted in pagan belief to tales shaped by the land itself, its forgotten rituals, sacred sites and unsettling past.

Tracing a line from whispered folklore through the chilling ghost stories of M. R. James and Arthur Conan Doyle, and on to Gothic classics such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, we will explore how folk horror has continually reinvented fear for new generations. From The Wicker Man and Witchfinder General, to modern stories of outsiders stumbling upon remote communities still ruled by “old ways,” the genre has never stopped evolving. Today, folk horror is experiencing a revival, as writers and filmmakers breathe fresh life into ancient legends, revealing that the uncanny is very much alive and thriving in the twenty-first century.

Romeo Stodart is the lead singer/songwriter in the much loved London based rock n roll harmony group The Magic Numbers.

The band comprising of two pairs of brothers and sisters have released five critically acclaimed albums thus far including the self-titled Mercury Music Prize nominated, million selling debut. Alongside The Magic Numbers, Romeo has collaborated with a vast array of artists including writing songs for & with the late Jane Birkin, Edwyn Collins, Amadou & Mariam, The Chemical Brothers and Ren Harvieu, producing records for Billy Bragg, Natalie Imbruglia & Kathryn Williams to name a few. He has also contributed his unique guitar playing style to various projects, adding banjo, guitar & harmonies on the Spiritualized album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, touring with Jimmy Webb & The Webb Brothers to playing as part of Damon Albarn’s Africa Express collective. Romeo is currently putting the finishing touches to a new Magic Numbers album due to be released early next year.

Scott Lavene is a British singer-songwriter and storyteller whose work blends kitchen-sink realism with dark humour, poetic grit, and a distinctly English sense of place. Emerging from Essex, Lavene has carved out a niche as a chronicler of the overlooked; his songs populated by down-and-outs, late-night wanderers, and small-town dreamers.

Before his music career gained traction, Lavene spent years working a range of everyday jobs, experiences that would later inform the unvarnished authenticity of his lyrics. His songs often feel like short stories set to music, delivered in a conversational, almost spoken-word style that sits somewhere between indie folk and post-punk.

His music is often compared to a lineage of British storytellers, Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, John Cooper Clarke, Jarvis Cocker and Robyn Hitchcock but, even so, Lavene’s voice remains singular. He has a gift for balancing melancholy with wit, finding beauty and absurdity in the mundane corners of modern life.

On stage, Lavene’s performances are intimate and magnetic, driven as much by his narrative delivery as by melody. Whether backed by a full band or performing solo, he creates a sense of closeness that draws audiences into his world.

In 2026, Scott will be playing the best of his four solo albums as well as some new material and stories, bringing the banter along with two beautiful vintage acoustic guitars.

The real bricks and mortar of the band are a heady mix of bands from Englands Scarborough Strip (think Sunset Strip but with less debauchery, more chips and an untapped resource of talent since five Little Angels flew big in 88). Players Scott Wardell (vocals guitar), Andy Jackson (guitars vocals), Chris Mayes (drums vocals) and Wayne Dowkes White (bass) finally came together just prior to the world shutting down in 2020. Rather than dwell on not being able to bring their collective talents to the stage, they started the socially distanced writing sessions that bought the plot for the house they were about to build. Each man brought a different musical path to the band, and you can hear them all as the album unfolds. Eclectic influences ranging from classic rock, funk, emo, nu-metal and melodic rock are mixed perfectly across the ten songs and brick by harmony laden brick they build a unique sound that transcends all of the aforementioned genres.

Dead Zebras

From the neon-lit streets of London comes Dead Zebras, a band hell-bent on proving that big hooks, bigger hair, and face-melting solos never go out of style. Blending the arena-sized anthems of 80s hair metal with the polished punch of modern rock radio, these four bring a fresh, high-voltage energy that feels like the soundtrack to a high-speed chase in a flaming DeLorean.

This Summer, we are pleased to present To Improvise A Mountain: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye Curates, a Hayward Gallery Touring Exhibition from Southbank Centre, London curated by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye.

Yiadom-Boakye is an artist and writer, one of the foremost painters of her generation renowned for her oil paintings of imagined people. These figures feel confident and seem to exist outside of any specific time or place, the people in her paintings are admired for both their technical mastery and lingering, mysterious quality.

For this exhibition, Yiadom-Boakye selects works that have been critical to her way of seeing and thinking as an artist, inviting people to take a personal journey through art from different places and different generations. The exhibition represents an opportunity for audiences to share in Yiadom-Boakye’s unique vision of the world and understand her journey as an artist in the iconic De La Warr Pavilion galleries.

Developed by the artist in collaboration with Hayward Gallery Touring, To Improvise A Mountain brings Yiadom-Boakye’s work into conversation with a range of historical and contemporary artists, illuminating her creative process. The exhibition includes works by Bas Jan Ader, Pierre Bonnard, Lisa Brice, Samuel Fosso, Peter Hujar, Kahlil Joseph, Zoe Leonard, Glenn Ligon, Toyin Ojih Odutola, The Otolith Group, Jennifer Packer, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Walter Sickert, Édouard Vuillard, David Wojnarowicz, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye.

The spirit of the exhibition stems from a fragment of poetry in ‘Inamorata’, a 1970 recording by jazz musician Miles Davis: ‘Who is this music that which description may never justify? / Can the ocean be described?’ For Yiadom-Boakye, poetry’s ability to translate the intangible into images, and to think through rhythm and feeling, is much like the act of painting itself.

This exhibition presented across both gallery spaces invites audiences on a journey of encounters with artworks that create emotional landscapes of intensity, intimacy, refusal, activism, and wonder. For Yiadom-Boakye, ‘the governing principle, the dialogue between the works, is that spirit of infinite knowledge and infinite knowing that poetry allows us’.

The spectacle marks the 50th anniversary of Tubular Bells, the debut studio album by English multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter Mike Oldfield. Oldfield, who was just 17 years old when he started composing the music, recorded and played almost all of the instruments on the album. Conceived in 1971 and finally released in 1973, it gained worldwide acclaim when the opening theme was used for the soundtrack of the horror film The Exorcist. Tubular Bells is a progressive journey through classical, jazz, folk, prog rock and electronica.

Ten performers from Circa Contemporary Circus present Oldfield’s work in its physical form, their heart-stopping acrobatics intricately woven together to reflect the music. The performance is directed by Yaron Lifschitz. The musical director, Robin Smith, has collaborated with Mike Oldfield over three decades including memorable performances of Tubular Bells at Edinburgh Castle in 1992 and at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

A vibrant, seaside-themed trail of 18 intricate yarnbombing installations is set to launch across Hastings Old Town this summer to raise vital funds for St Michael’s Hospice.

The event (which runs throughout the school summer holidays) invites families, residents, and visitors to search for 18 unique, handcrafted character tableaux hidden inside the windows of local independent shops. The secret collective behind the display, the Yarnbombers for St Michael’s Hospice, spent months knitting and crocheting the coastal scenes to bring joy to the high street.

The proceeds of all trail maps purchased go directly to support the Hospice's palliative care services in Hastings and Rother. Maps can be purchased digitally via the official ticket page or by visiting the Yarnbombers for St Michael's Hospice Facebook and Instagram pages.

The trail runs from 17th July until 5th September 2026
